What does the name “TikiKitchen” have to do with digital media?

We get that a lot.

Shakespeare famously asked, “What’s in a name?”—a simple question, but we all know the answer—a lot! Names are important. They’re emblematic. New parents spend hours poring over the meaning of potential names to bestow upon the newest member of their family. Often, businesses use names symbolically to indicate particular qualities or services.

So what’s with “TikiKitchen”?

The name TikiKitchen was established in 2005 to honor the interests and values of the founder of our company, Aric Harris. Aric was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and ever after, Aric found tikis and their creation fascinating. For Aric, tiki statues represented beauty and fierceness, determination and persistence, the primal need for community and our desire for human significance. Tiki isn’t all about cocktails and paper umbrellas—which, hey, we like those, too—but more importantly, “The artistic likenesses created in tikis demonstrate a high level of craftsmanship and perfectionism.” Craftmanship and perfection: Who doesn’t want those qualities in their business?

Where does the Kitchen come in?

Having worked in restaurants for a number of years, Aric found incredible creative expression in the kitchen. From mouthwatering filets to root-beer-float cheesecakes, Aric has done it all. The best part of his former kitchen career, however, was that, at the end of the day, Aric could say that he gave his customers an unforgettable experience—a meal that not only tasted like heaven on earth, but also could be shared with friends and loved ones.  That’s the Kitchen: unforgettable experiences forged by creative combinations.

Craftsmanship and perfectionism, determination and persistence, unforgettable experiences and creative combinations: That’s TikiKitchen. Not a bad name, eh?
